Hello all,

My wife has landed as PR earlier this month and we are planning to go back to Colombia to visit her family for the holiday season. However after looking at the current wait time for the card, it seems like we will not receive the PR Card until January or February.

I understand there is a Temporary document that we can apply while in Colombia so she can use it to return to Canada, I was wondering if any one has any experience to share and how long it might wait to apply?

Or you would just advice we wait until next year to avoid any potential problem?

new PR card rakes less than 2 months....so if you landed in Oct, you should expect the PR card by Dec

My partner's first PR card took more than 5 months.

Yes, OP there is a document you can apply for in Colombia. Your wife applies for a PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document) in order to get back to Canada. It takes about a week or more to get, so apply as soon as you arrive in Colombia. The link is here: https://www.vfsglobal.ca/Canada/Colombia/English/index.html
