Hi All,

I need a quick help in resolving a very strange issue :( :( :( that I am stuck in.
I work for a MNC and my employer has decided to do a temporary transfer to Canada from India for 2 years.

But couple of years back when I was in Canada, I had applied for PR and currently I have a COPR (Confirmation of PR) for which I am yet to do my landing.
My employer has stated me to travel to Canada in month of Feb-2015 and has been requesting me to apply for Work Permit.

Do I still need to apply for Work Permit when I already have a COPR and will CIC approve my work permit ??

If you are going to be a permanent resident you dont need a work permit. You can notify your employer about your COPR. When do you plan to land? The COPr is only good for employment purposes after you have landed and it has been stamped and signed by border officer.
Also note that the COPR is only valid upto date your medicals expire or date passport expires(which ever comes sooner) so you might want to act fast.

Thanks for the response.

I have already notified my employer regarding the same.
My COPR is valid till Mar 2015
My employer wants me to travel in month of Feb. They want me to travel only with work permit.

Will CIC provide a new work permit.
I am stuck between CIC policies and my employer conditions >:( >:( >:(

if you travel in February you will become a landed immigrant, and will officially be a permanent resident of canada MEANING A WORK PERMIT WILL NO LONGER BE NEEDED FOR YOU. BEING A RESIDENT WILL AUTOMATICALLY GIVE YOU THE RIGHT AND ELIGIBILITY TO WORK IN CANADA. If your employer is knowledgeable, they would know this. COPR carries far much weight than a work permit(thats for temporary uses)

I think CIC will not giv u a WP when you have immigrant visa stamped & u have COPR, assuming you are from a non-visa exempt country. if u are visa exempt and hv only copr, then it will be in ur file & CIC can get your pr details using the UCI n they may refuse wp. May b u can call cic call center n ask, good luck!

Not sure whether your Employer OR their Lawyer have any Knowledge about CIC policy.
YOUR WP WILL BE REJECTED 100% sure
why CIC will issue WP when you already have PR Approved?

Also based on my experience from few of my friends (who are from India) Now your Employer will not send you Canada, they will try to pick some one else (until you are the only one with expected domain expertise). Indian Employer are more in fear, what if employee leave job once land in Canada.
In fact that is reason most of these so called big MNC don't support their employee in PR process.
Anyway good Luck and try to educate your manager about CIC policy

more like if you got a WP when you land.
the officer will RIP the WP lol

Just Let your employer know that you hold COPR and your company will humbly accept it as you are saving lot of hassles for them .

Thanks all for your help.

I have escalated to top level regarding my case.
Still they are acting dumb and telling me to apply for work permit. They are just complicating my case.

You need to educate them (i know its hard) that you have been approved for permanent resident in Canada and WP is not required. Top level guys are always dumb with these kind of scenario or they may pretend to be dumb sometimes intentionally.

I am sure they know that you will not come back once you land with COPR in hand, so they put you in a situation. Either they will choose someone else or let you go if they are dependent on you. I suggest you to be prepared for either situation as your COPR is getting expired in March.

Wonderclicks

Hey tell them that you are permanent resident of Canada( like green card in USA, at least they might know that). You don't need to explain about COPR. I told my Indian company that i am a permanent resident and i don't need visa or WP.
if some immigration team exists in you company (My company has a very knowledgeable team; so that most of our guys don't get visas, which made my life easy) some times they know how that works.
