hi, I worked a co-op job a few summer ago (2016) but wasn't a mandatory part of my program. I got a letter from my department that I used to apply for a co-op work permit. However the work ended before I was approved for the co-op permit. I worked in that job on my study permit that allowed 40 hrs off campus work and the employer didn't say anything. Technically the co-op portion is optional for my program and it showed on my transcript. my question is whether I worked illegally or I should be fine. I am not required to do internship/co-op to be eligible to graduate. I consulted an rcic agent before accepting the job and she said I was fine at the time. now that I started my application for a post graduate work permit, I am not sure if I should tick the portion where it says if co-op/ internship is mandatory, especially since I got the credit for co-op for that summer and I hold a co-op permit. I am extremely confused now, can someone please help me please? has anyone been in the same situation and got their post graduate work permit accepted. I am very scared.

Believe that you were supposed to get a specific co-op permit but not very knowledgeable. Best to be upfront and indicate that you contacted an immigration consultant and were advised that you were fine to work in a co-op placement. Was your co-op in the summer?

Why would you tick a box saying the co-op was mandatory when it wasn't? You're fine and worrying for nothing.

I just wasn't sure what to do, especially that I stuck to only my studies and barely worked while being in Canada. At any rate, I didn't want to provide the wrong information and it will hunt my down the road.

I verified from my advisor that I do not require co-op/internship to be eligible to graduate, however it still shows in my transcript. That's the only reason I was worried, also I do hold a co-op permit (obtained after summer), it's counter intuitive but I wanted to make sure I was doing the right step.
