Is it true that i can just apply for permanent residency just proving i have enough money to support myself? And if so, do i need to send my passport in with the documents when applying?
and another thing.. can i apply whilst being in Canada?

hope that doesn't sound like too much, would really appreciate some answers.

No, just prove money to support yourself is not enough. You need more than that. Read www.cic.gc.ca for details. Depending on your situation, you may or may not apply whilst being in Canada.

There is no immigration class for people who have enough money to support themselves. If you have business experience and money like sand, you can apply under investor class though but it is not fast.

When applying for PR, you never have to send your passport in right away. They will ask for it later. This because immigration processing takes so long you would be without your passport for moths or even years.

not particularly rich but someone told me that.. that's why i was asking cause it didn't seem right to me.

but for me to be able to become PR can my boyfriend sponsor me through common law if we have only lived together for 6 months continuously? cause another thing i got told is that to be considered common law in Alberta is only 6 months and i can't find that anywhere :(

It may well be that in order to file taxes together if you live in AB, you only need to have lived together for 6 months but the sponsorship application is not provincial, it is federal and immigration requires 12 so either live together 12 months or get married.

alright, i think i got the answer i needed. thanks Leon!
