Hello,

I recently graduated with my PhD and will be applying for a post graduate OWP for myself and also an OWP for my spouse. I had 3 questions about the application and would greatly appreciate if someone clarifies these queries!

1. The document checklist on myCIC shows 3 main application forms to be filled out, IMM 5710 (one for each of us), IMM5713 (since my spouse's application is included in my account) and IMM5257 (one each for me and my spouse). The 3rd document i.e., Schedule 1-IMM5257 says application for temporary resident visa made OUTSIDE canada. I am confused since we both are IN canada already, so can anyone clarify if the forms indeed are to be filled along with the work permit? FYI, our resident visas are good until November '16.

2. What other supporting documents will I need? I already have a post doctoral job offer where I will be starting. Is the job offer letter sufficient to get my spouse an OWP? I do not have any pay slips yet.

3. The application fees myCIC shows is $155x2 (work permit) + open work permit holder fee ($100x2) = total of $510. I did not understand what the OWP holder fee was for. Is this the usually cost? Seems pretty high! ???

Thanks in advance! :D

I'll help with one questions:

2. Job offer is not sufficient. You need to have started working and be able to provide a pay slip in order for your spouse to apply for an OWP.

Thanks for the info! Appreciate it! Can I upload them at a later time when I start receiving the pay slips by the end of the month? Maybe I can let them know about this in the optional 'explanation letter'. Is it the proof of funds that they are looking for? If so, will a bank statement do?

2. The instructions are clear: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/post-grad.asp
See the last section, last note.. Notice the word "and"

Paystubs are mandatory in the scenario you described.

3. The fees you mentioned are correct, that is the proper amount.

Thanks! So, since I haven't received my first pay slip yet, what do you recommend:

1. I apply for the PGOWP first and then at a later time, apply for my spouse's OWP
2. We both apply at the same time and upload the pay slip at a later time on CIC (and explain the case in the optional letter with the document) in case such an option is available.

Submitting the pay slip later is not an option.
