Hi there,

So I'm 85% complete with the documents and have the following quick questions:

1) for Spousal Sponsorship do I need the wife's birth certificate? or is Passport and Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate enough?

2) for Photos, I only need 5 (as per region specific guide) of hers (only sponsoring her right now)? all of a sudden I'm worried that I need her family's as well (her mom and dad and sisters)?

2.5) from the region specific guides and Appendix A: Photo specifications of Guide 5609 all I see is that the date needs to be written on the back of all photos and can't find anywhere that we need names and date of birth - follow guide and just date?

3) I read that we both need to fill out IMM5406 - so for mine I am the applicant (just so CIC will know whose parents are whose)? As far as the official definition is concerned I am the sponsor and she is the [principle] applicant

4) for Proof of Relationship I have done a 53 page layout with photos and descriptions - is this okay or a waste of time or do they prefer LOOSE photos as per guide? I wanted to present photos as detailed as possible so they are pretty much all dated with location and occasion

4.5) does it matter which "voice" I did the description in (i.e. first person, third person etc.)?

5) I currently have separated and labeled four folders - one for each of our applications and then civil / ID document and proof of relationship folders. Then when part of the application calls for it I just refer CIC to the respective folders since both Sponsor's and Principal Applicant's application asks for the same thing (marriage certificate and proof of relationship for example)

Please advise.
Thanks.

I will try to help you out here as best I can.

1. You will require your wifes birth certificate, yes. It should be listed in your regional guide for where you are sponsoring her from.

2. No, only the intended immigrant need submit photos. As long as there are no children then it is only your wife that needs photos.

2.5 (LOL) Follow the region guide. If it states only a date is required then put a date only on it. Remember each regional guide may require something else so don't try to base it on what you read here. Follow the guide and ask any questions in direct relation to what the guide states.

3. IMM 5406 is part of the principle applicants forms, not the sponsorship forms. You are required to fill out ALL forms pertaining ONLY to the sponsorship part of the application. Your wife must fill out the remainder of the forms.

4. I think people have to make their own decisions in regards to this. Everyone has their own ideas on how to include photos. Mine were loose, but others have done as you have suggested here and it's been fine.

4.5 (another small laugh, sorry, just amused this early in the morning) No, your narrative does not need to be from a specific POV. It only need be clear and honest.

5. This should be acceptable. I have seen some do it this way and it be fine and others have include multiple copies of the same document to include in both file folders. If you wish to condense even further, you can put ID documents and relational proofs into on envelope and refer to the location of these items in each individual application. Remember to include EVERYTHING in the one mailing envelope (box) though. Don't get so much together that you forget something important. It would suck to have it returned to you for incompleteness.

Best of luck to you on starting this new journey. It is a long process, but worth it in the end.
