Hi Friends,
I was done with my bachelors degree of Visual Communication just few weeks back but I won't be getting the completion certificate due to couple of backlogs which can be cleared(completed) without my presence in India. Since my course duration was 3 years, I completed my 12 grade back in 2014. I applied for a computer systems technology program(advanced diploma) in one of the SPP colleges and received my offer letter today. It seems like I have to apply it through SPP as per the college norms. As I don't have any document to prove my bachelors has been completed, should I be mentioning it in the questionnaire? I always wanted to do a certificate course in Computer Programming and Networking after my bachelors in Visual communication as I was pretty good with the Computers. I couldn't do a course in computer science due to my mediocre grades(58%) in 12th grade. What is the best possible way for me to explain this to the VISA officer and convince them?

Did you get selected by your bachelor's degree or 12th grade? If latter, you stand a chance by explaining the VO that you do not like that degree for xyz reasons and this course in Canada is a better fit for you. If acceptance was conditional to bachelor's degree, you stand no option other than seeking deferral from Canada and completing degree in India before visa application.

Good luck!

Hi Good Boy,
Thanks for the quick reply. I got selected on the basis of my 12th grade marks and I didn't mention about my B. Sc. to them. It's nice to know that I stand a chance to explain it. To be honest, I never hated my B. Sc. but it's because of my inability to get into Computer course, I had to do it. Will I be able to convince the Visa officer by telling him/her that I was forced to do B. Sc. in Visual Communications by my parents even though I always wanted to end up doing a course related to computer science. Also, My B. Sc. matters very little to me because of my obsession to the computers. I would also like to know whether it's alright to apply under SPP after 3 years of gap(I did my B. Sc during this time). Also, I hold a multiple entry visitors visa for Canada at the moment for which I mentioned I was a student back in 2016 when I applied for it. Is it valuable to add a bit of work experience? I helped my family in our Business but I never got paid for it.

You have to give plausible explanation for those 3 years. Being forced by parents does not sound like a convincing one (although I understand the Indian culture); you need to find better explanation. Family business can be a good excuse, but you need to provide relevant documents. I do not know what they should be, but have to tangible evidence. If your family business can be connected with your proposed program, that's even better. That will serve for bona-fide issue and tie to home country- two commonest causes of rejection.

Unsolicited advice- having a bachelor's degree is a good thing. Throwing it away would not be wise. You can always get a chance to study in another country as long as you have funding (NZ, Australia, UK are easier kills than Canada), but giving away 3 years of effort might not be the best in your future interest at this stage of the career. Just my thoughts.

Hi, Thanks again for the reply. I think my family business can be connected with my proposed program (Computer Systems Technology) as our business is very dependent on computers! By the way, I already told you that I have a visitors' visa for which I mentioned that I was a student back in 2016. So, I reckon it's a no-brainer to mention my bachelor's as already had mentioned about it back in 2016. So, all I have to do right now is give plausible explanation for these years by telling them that I have been heavily involved in our business with supporting documents.

P. S: I'm thankful for your unsolicited advice as well. My bachelors might well help me in seeking PR in future I guess!
