hi, im from Phil. i have a boy friend who had just migrated to Canada a month ago. we've been together for about 2 and a half years now and planning to get married. he wants me to reside there. what visa should i apply for? how could i get there? if ever i could have a chance of residing there, could i work immediately? i am a fresh graduate of bs accountancy.. thank you so much!

Does your boyfriend have a PR? If so, once you get married he can sponsor you as his spouse.
If you were living together for more than a year before he went to Canada, he should have included you in his application as his common-law spouse.

i'm sorry..but what is PR? no, we have not lived together here.how am i supposed to get there?tnx!

PR = Permanent Residence, the right to live, work or study in Canada permanently.

If you and your boyfriend were not in a common-law or spousal relationship when he applied for his immigration visa then the other option is that of getting married to him and then he'll be able to apply for you as a spouse under the Family Class.

All info is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

Feel free to provide more details about your relationship so that any of the forum members can help you with your questions.

Good luck.

PR-Permanent Resident or an immigrant status, family class visa if you and boyfreind will get married, he will sponsor you as his spouse, finding A job is always a problem and challenge for new immigrants but of course there's a lot of jobs here in Canada but there's no guarantee that you can find a job related to BS Accountacy.

thank you to the both of you!it's well appreciated :) my boyfriend has an immigrant status.. so we could just get married here in the phil and apply for spousal visa..am i getting it right?thank you so much!im just wondering if i still need to study BS Accountacy under the Canadian curriculum so as to get a job related to my course. thank you!

myks, Canadian Govt has a foreign credential program for foreign trained or professionals outside Canada all your credentials will be checked and evaluated, if your curriculum pass the canadian standard then you can work in the field of accountancy but as always the problem majority of employers in the business sectors want applicants to have Canadian experience. For more information just visit www.cic.gc.ca and click foreign credential located at the right bottom of the wall page.

you are welcome myks ;) :D

Yes, if you get married he can then sponsor you to immigrate to Canada. It takes around 10 months through the Philippines.

Your credentials will need to get validated in Canada for you to find employment in that profession. Depending on where you plan to establish your residency upon arrival, the requirements may vary. You can check this page for information: http://www.credentials.gc.ca/index.asp

For example, in B.C., there are three regulatory bodies that control and certify accountants to legally practice in that province, see this page for more info: http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/fcro/report-eng.do?area=25565&lang=en&noc=1111&province=59&keyword=accountant&action=final&display=regulated

you'll have to do research and/or talk to other people who've been through the same experience.

Good luck.
