Good day Guys
Hope everyone here is doing great and staying safe .
Well I have a question or let me say challenge and looking to see if anyone has an idea on how i can go about this situation. Well I am 42 and i plan applying for a work permit soon . I am from Germany . I went to college in the US and during my schooling days out there I caught a case that led to a felony . I was young , dumb and stupid but no excuse to get into any criminal activity . I was charged with Bank fraud and did 6 months in a county jail this is was like 2002, after my 6 months I got deported back to Germany because i was still a resident out there, didn't go to prison .
Later on in 2015, I applied for an ETA , and on the application it asked if i have any criminal record, I said yes and submitted, 5 mins later i got an approved ETA . I have been to Canada like 5 times now , I even renewed my ETA lately and I was approved.
Now my question is do i go ahead and apply for a work permit since i have made it clear on my ETA application i have a criminal record in the US , or do i just apply for rehabilitation straight away before turning in my application for a work permit . I just feel its going to be a different process since i am applying for a work permit , but also I was thinking that means the Canadian immigration do not run an extensive background check on visitors who apply for an ETA.
Its been 20 years now , I am totally changed person, that experience changed my life and ever since then I don't indulge into any criminal activity, I don't even have a parking ticket . So i hope to hear from you someone out here .
Best regards
