Hi there,

As I am going to apply my spouse sponsorship Inland, I would like to extend my visa in order to stay in Canada.

I probably won't go to work, but want to stay here until I get the PR.

I have the following questions:

1. In my case, I am not going to work, just want to get the allowance to stay in Canada till I get the PR. Which permission should I apply for?

2. How long does it take to get the permit? (As I am allow to stay here till May)

3. Can I get any health care freely if I don't go to work?

4. How can I get the Ontario driving license by the exchange program? Would they take away my driving license?

5. Is it better to mail the Sponsorship forms and OWP at the same time?

Thank you!

I hope I can get done of my paper work and send them out as soon as possible!

Re: Help! Inland application of Work Permit or Study Permit??

1. If you apply for Inland, you do not need to apply for any permit.
you can stay and wait for pr in Canada.

2. you can apply for Open work permit with your PR app.
you can work with OWP.

3. you need to register as full time student and present enough fund to study etc in order to get study permit.
applying for SP and PR is irrelevant , you need to prepare for it.

4. check out processing time of SP on CIC.

5. not sure other province, but you can have health Care in MB right away if you have a proper permit.

1. One let's you work, one let's you study. The OWP is generally valid for 2 years, though it can be less. Study permit duration depends on the course you are taking.

2. You should apply for the OWP. To apply for a study permit, you must first be accepted to an educational institute and will need to show significant proof of funds. This is a separate process from applying for PR.

3. The OWP takes about 4 months after submission. Provided you submit it while your current status is valid, you will be allowed to stay on Implied Status after May.

4. Health care depends on the province.

Very wrong. It is the submission of the OWP permit along with the PR app that allows a person to stay in Canada. The PR app alone does not grant any form of status or permission to remain in Canada.

thought, for inland application (with/without owp), one can stay in Canada as implied status till get any DM (rejection or approval)?

Re: Help! Inland application of Work Permit or Study Permit??

Or I should go and extend my visa, without making the OWP as I am not going to work???

No, there is no Implied Status from submitting an inland app. A person must still maintain their status.

Yes, you could extend your visitor status. However, depending on your province, it may be possible to get health coverage with an OWP, while a visitor can't. Plus the OWP is usually valid for 2 years, so it would save you the trouble of having to continually extend your visitor status.

You would recommend me to do the OWP, even if I am not going to work?

If I don't work, I don't think they give me the health coverage ..

And is it better to mail both of the forms, Sponsorship forms and OWP all together?

Cheers!

Yes, I recommend the OWP. Health coverage depends on province.

Yes, you need to mail it all together.

Depends on your province and where you are from.

Put present or the date you sign the form. There will be no issue.

Check the Ontario licensing website.

It doesn't matter which you put.
