Hi,

I got married on 6th Oct 2019 and the priest at our wedding signed out marriage license forms along with two witnesses and gave me the "Record of Solemnization of Marriage" with his signature and license number on it.

Today I went online to Ontario govt website and applied online for a marriage certificate based on just the date of the wedding and the names of me and my wife. It never asked for the license number.

How can I check that the priest did actually send our marriage license to the govt for registration ? also, is there a way to request faster processing. My wife's visitor visa is till March 14 2020 and we want to apply for Open Work Permit as well.

Someone told me that the certificate takes 4-5 months and I am worried that her visa will end before the certificate reaches us.

You can apply for an emergency or expedited certificate. Check out this Ontario government page: https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-get-copy-ontario-marriage-certificate-online
Thanks for the link! Since I just got married and her visa is valid for the next 5 months or so, I don't think we will qualify for an emergency situation. Is there another way I can request faster processing?

But, what if her certificate doesn't come on time or comes right before her visa ends? is there a way to extend the visa?

Those are the ways to qualify for faster processing in Ontario.

You can apply to extend the stay in Canada.

Aha! Alright. I shall apply for expedition soon! In the meantime I'll collect all the documents/proofs required.

Thankyou so much for the info! :)

One more question please. Does it hurt my case if I applied online for the marriage certificate so soon after the marriage? I just read somewhere that people should wait for atleast a month before requesting a certificate?

I am worried now :(
