Hi everyone. My husband is from Jamaica but here in Canada. We were married here in July. As for now he has no status (please dont judge or send negative comments, i know.)
Anyways, we started the inland app in Oct and I was pretty much finished it but we kept stalling to send it in...after this holiday, after that holiday...the more proof and supporting documents the better right?
Well now that I am ready, I went to review the app and make sure everything was proper and noticed there have been updates to the forms....yikes! One I noticed is the checklist no longer says u dont have to send in police check right away.

Does this mean it now has to be done and sent in WITH the application?
If so, does my husband now need one for Canada and Jamaica? I read before they didnt need one for here as they would run the check themselves but thats not what it looks like its saying now. Is it the checks from RCMP or just a reg police check would do?

Also, I was told before to wait to send work permit app. Now im seeing everyone sending it in. I know our situation is different cuz no status but should i send it in now anyways or wait?

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, everything changed on me and Im freaking out again.

Omg how long is it gonna take to get these police certificates now?? ive already dated and signed all the pages in my app. lol
And now whos to say more updates dont come out again in the meantime while im waiting lol...ughhh
Please help

You have until March 15th, if I am correct, to use and submit the old application package with the old checklist. That being said, you don't need to provide police certificates upfront, as long as you apply before March 15th. Your husband needs to have a valid status in order to qualify for an open work permit. If you apply for it as he is right now, out of status, he'll be denied, most likely. You should do a little bit of research yourself, or have your husband help with that, this information is not hard to find if you look it up. Before you submit the app, make sure everything is okay, and double check everything.

For the canadian checks my husband was required to provide the rcmp check

We also recieved a request for an police report from the RCMP. It seems to be hit and miss on this one. She didn’t even have 6 months total time in Canada.

IRCC do their own checks with RCMP. If your husband cannot be cleared with the biographical data provided, he will need to provide fingerprints for the RCMP check.

That's interesting. What month did you apply? I am wondering how far into the process they requested this from you. We are Sept. 1 applicants and they haven't requested this from us yet, though my partner lived in Canada on a tourist visa (with extension) for a year. We have just received the RCMP report in the mail because I wanted to have it ready just in case, but I don't want to send it unless they request it so I don't bog them down with unecessary stuff and communication.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

We were near the end of the process. We had AOR2 and they requested additional documents (the RCMP report). Took about 2 weeks to get it, couriered it to Singapore VO and got the PPR about 3 weeks later.

A friend of mine who has been through this process recently advised along with the app and OWP app they also applied for a TRP (Temporary residency permit) to give him his "legal" status back. That and the OWP was approved so he could work while waiting.
They did this on the advice of Immigration.

interesting. I've never heard of this route .although I know alot of peoples whole did inland apps with no status and got through so i dont get why everyone says need to restore status. I'm gonna look more into that . Ty

Do canadian sponsors need to submit police certificates? Or is just the principle applicant?
