Hi
Can someone please help me. I was just issued an exclusion order today for one year and given the option to apply for PRRA. This is because I overstayed my student visa and had now been living unlawfully in Canada for over 6 years now. During that time I did not apply for any other visas or been in any trouble with the police or anything. My question is what are my options now? Also can anyone recommend lawyers in Calgary.

Think everyone is going to agree this is an issue for lawyers not forums. Were you working illegally?

Too many variables to even begin to give you an answer. Talk to a lawyer.

Hi there - you're situation is that you've been in Canada without status and now you've been issued with a removal order.

PRRA is for someone who has extremely serious risks associated with being returned to their country - refugee level persecution. PRRA suspends the removal for a few months but if you're just stalling then you are only adding another negative to your growing immigration file. You need evidence for a PRRA to be successful.

The fact that you haven't been in trouble with the police is meaningless other than you'd have the Exclusion Order replaced with a Deportation Order and possibly remain in detention until your departure.

In brief, it's likely time to leave Canada but find a lawyer by all means. You should find one easily.
