Help! Do I have status?

Hello

I applied INLAND for PR through Family Class (spouse). I had a valid Visitor Visa at the time that is about to expire. As part of the application, I was allowed to submit a work permit application which was approved.

I just got a letter saying I have met eligibility requirements so should get my approval for PR soon AS LONG AS I RETAIN PROPER STATUS WITHIN CANADA.

Does my current work permit (good for more than 1 more year) give me temporary status in Canada? My TRV is about to expire and I'm now worried that it was the only thing giving me status. I realize my work permit does not allow me to leave and enter Canada but does it give me valid status until my PR is approved in the near future?

Your work permit gives you status. Don't worry about it.

Common misconception - A TRV by itself doesn't grant you status - it's just a document that lets you travel to Canada. Once you're at the border, the CBSA officer grants you status by letting you in as a visitor.

Your work permit is currently granting you status. If you want to leave Canada and re-enter, you will need a TRV.
