Hello,

I am a Canadian, who is applying to sponsor my Kiwi boyfriend of 4 years as my common law partner, we are currently living in New Zealand. I have sent away the complete the application to Mississauga (it has been 2 weeks), and have just realised the because my boyfriend is still under 35 he can apply for a working holiday visa. So, even though we have already applied outside of Canada for the common law permanent residence visa, could my boyfriend apply for the the working holiday visa while it is processing and join me in Canada opposed to us being separated for up to 7 months while it processes in Oz? Will this extend or change our current application?

Please help me get some info about this, it would be very helpful!

Thanks,

CF

Yes. Although the work holiday program is not intended for people awaiting PR there are no specific rules against it. He can also be physically in Canada with an Outland application processing.

Hello,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. How do I go about alerting the CIC and Canadian Embassy in Sydney Australia that this is happening? Do I just have to change our mailing addresses?

Thanks,

CF

Yes, once in Canada, he can change his mailing address to Canada so that he receives all correspondence there.

One other thing, I noticed you said your Kiwi partner, but you're living in NZ. If he is not a national of NZ, his application will have to be transferred to the embassy that represents his country of birth if he goes to Canada. So that might cause some delays in processing, and he will have to - at some point - take his passport to that embassy to have the application finalized. He will also have to attend any required interview at the embassy that is processing the case. It's possible an interview might be conducted before you left Sydney - depends on how far into things it is before he leaves - but you might want to carefully consider the consequences of an application transfer if he's not a citizen of NZ.

No problem as Robsluv mentioned just do an address change once you guys are here. I'm guessing your man is from New Zealand considering you called him a kiwi :))

Hello Again, and thanks so much for your help.

Yes my boyfriend is a New Zealander, so thankfully we won't have to change embassies or anything like that. This is great news, I thought I would have to be separated from him for up to 7 months, it will be so much better if he can just come with me to Canada in June.

So, I will need to change both of our addresses once we move to Canada, how do I go about this, is it any easy process? Will the visa still continue being processed in Australia if we are both in Canada? Also, is there any chance that our application will take longer to process if we change our mailing address? Will we be penalised in any way?

Sorry for all the questions, but as you both know this process is never very clear or straight forward!

Thanks,

CF
