I thought I posted already but don't see it anywhere? My apologies if it's a double post. So thankful to find this forum and appreciate any help during this stressful process.

I'm Canadian. My spouse is American who had been on an employer-specific work permit for a couple years. We applied for inland spousal sponsor PR in July 2021. Closed work permit expired Dec 31, 2021. The PR application was returned early January for being "incomplete" (minor mistakes - *sigh*). Planned to resubmit right away (likely hire someone this time to ensure no mistakes), but spouse is out-of-status.

We understand spouse can either leave and try to re-enter Canada (risky!) or apply to restore status (taking 6 months!). We have children so don't want to risk being denied entry for an over-stay of 3 weeks.

It's my understanding, out-of-status applicants can apply for spousal PR, but not the OWP?

Could we submit the restoration of visitor status application AND then send in the inland spousal PR application right away without OWP? Then when (or I should say "if") the restoration is approved, apply for OWP (as part of PR application)? Or maybe the AIP for the PR will come even before status is restored and OWP can be applied for?

(Don't know if the current wait time for a basic application from an American with no criminal record, etc is 12 months too?)

Just need whatever is the FASTEST way to get OWP.

Thank you in advance for any help!!!
