Hi everyone,
I would like to know from those of you, who are applying outland but currently residing inside Canada with visitor´s or tourist visa: how about health insurance? How much does it cost for someone who has no PR yet but waiting for it? We are still waiting for my hubby´s PR (hopefully it will come before I move back).

I'm in Alberta more than a year and got AHS cover directly after our marriage. See the link in my signature.

This is province specific. Most provinces won't add you their health care just because you've married a Canadian (you have to wait until you have PR).

waikiki - which province will you be living in?

Hello Waikiki, what province do you reside in? In Ontario, I was told that if you have visitor's record and can show proof that sponsor has been approved and letter on letterhead stating that you are in process or your app is being finalized, then you are eligible to apply for OHIP. But, that's Ontario.

This thread should help:

Alberta will look at providing AHC to persons on tourist visas on a case by case basis. You need to contact Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan and make an application with your specific facts.

hi waikiki

I stayed in Canada as a visitor for the last 6 months and I had a longterm travel insurance through the ADAC (if you are from Germany). It's way cheaper than other insurances and easy to get.

Thanks elizabeth, by the way, did Berlin ask you to send additional passport copy or did they send COPR right away?

they sent me the COPR right away, I think for German and Dutch citizens Berlin usually sends COPR, unless your passport expired and you got a new one. But not sure.

Does anyone know the rules for Saskatchewan with respect to when health care is available.
