I got an offer for a position, and then I realized it was funded by Canada summer jobs, so I had to decline it since I am ineligible as a foreign worker. It seems the employer hadn't realized nor was there info about the job funding on the job posting. I just wondered if this happens often or if anyone has ever done this before lol? I declined it and explained it to the employer, bc I don't want repercussions when I apply for PR.

The summer jobs program is very clear that must be citizen or PR so no it doesn't happen often. Did you apply and tell them you were not a citizen in the interview? Or only after you were given the job offer?

There was no information about the funding being by Canada Summer Jobs on the job posting, when I had my second interview they briefly mentioned CSJ being part of the funding for this position, and they offered me the job. I had to circle back and ask them about the restrictions and let them know I'm on a work permit and decline the offer :/
That was a close one lol, that's why I wondered if this happens at all hahaha

It should not because on the front page of the Summer Job site, it says the requirements. Since you mentioned in all your documents/resume/cover letter and interview that you were a temporary foreign worker then employer should not have offered you the job in the first place.

Not it seems that it was miscommunication issue, I didn't know about the funding and they didn't know I was a foreign worker. Good thing they mentioned CSJ before we signed anything. I think they assumed I was a Canadian citizen since I don't have an accent (I get this often lol) but yeah all good know, only posted this thread to hear other people's experiences haha

The program is only open to Canadian citizens, PRs and protected persons. They would have figured out you do t qualify during background checks and would have withdrawn the offer.

Eligibility criteria is here: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment...funding/canada-summer-jobs/who-can-apply.html
