Hello,

I was wondering if there are any women on tis forum who have moved to canada without the husband initially. How was the experience and pros and cons?

Any insight would be great.

Thanks in Advnace

I’m not female, but I’d like to share with you a piece of advice. Before you travel have the father of these children put in writing that he is aware that you’re traveling with the children. Some airlines and IOs are strict on this - to prevent child trafficking. I advise you have this letter handy, just in case you’re asked for it. My wife almost missed a flight out of Canada because of this.

Again, I’m not female but thought you’d find this information helpful.

All the best.

If this is an initial landing question then the OP should remember the primary applicant must either land first or at same time as rest of family. If the husband in this case is not the primary applicant but the wife is then no problem provided also advice followed in previous post re permission letter, but that applies which ever parent travels alone with children.

Interesting. Here in USA never heard anyone suggesting to carry permission letter from spouse if traveling alone with kid(s). Is this some Canada specific issue?

It is not a Canada only issue but applies to many countries even possible for non US citizens travelling into the US. Not always asked for granted but is designed as part of the initiative to reduce child trafficking or abduction across borders.

Here is a link for the US version but other countries have similar process.

Usually it's only an issue in the USA if the parents are divorced/separated.

This is not true at all. This is common everywhere in the world. If you're traveling with kids you may be asked if the other parent has given permission for flying.

Did you miss the part where I quoted the post specifically discussing the USA?

Both me and my wife have been asked for a written statement flying out of the US. Your marital status has no bearing on the situation.

This is a big deal because there's no way to enforce the law in some countries if a parent abducts their child from the other parent.
