Has anyone had their children come visit for the summer?

I am wondering if anyone has tried to have their children or child come visit for the summer during the waiting period? Would appreciate any comments.

Would they need a TRV? If not, they can just come as regular tourists. If they do, showing they are enrolled in school, are on summer holidays, and are expected back at their school in the fall may help show enough ties to their country to get a TRV.
