I have never experienced an appeal and would like to know what the process is like, how expensive this can be, also a possible success rate.
Has anyone had experience appealing a rejected visitor visa extension with COVID as the reason?

I'm not sure of the actual terms, but simply getting a rejection to a visitor visa and then appealing it to buy more time to stay in Canada. The only valid reason would be COVID, because they sold everything they owned when they came here. They have no property or rental to show that they intended to return.
Is this the first extension that was requested? What were the refusal reasons? Where are they from?

Even after covid is more stabilized they should expect that they will likely be denied an extension and a certain point and will be expected to return home. They are in Canada as visitors. They should be making plans for when they need to return.
Showing strong ties to your home country like a home to return can help an extension.
I absolutely agree that all of this was a bad choice right from the beginning. Nothing was thought out. My fiancée seems to work more on heart logic. I really worry that getting into a huge appeal would cost a tonne of money that they do not have and they need whatever money they have to re-establish themselves in their country, Israel. They had planned to return after exhausting all options to remain in canada, but then COVID hit, now they don't want to go back in fear as Israel is about to face the second lockdown.
They absolutely made poor choices, I have been doing research to try and stop the madness. I was just wondering if COVID would be a valid reason to appeal as they fear travelling back to a lockdown. Their plan was to stay with friends if they had to return, but now they cannot. Cause all their friends are elderly. He just does not want to send them during the pandemic. I know.,, awful situation they all got themselves in.
Agreed! And they have nothing to show. No family or property or even a lease. I am actually surprised the two extensions went through.
If this is their third extension, they've frankly been here far too long as visitors. Appealing is going to take money since you need a lawyer. The refusal appears reasonable given the length of their stay in Canada and lack of ties to their home country. So appealing may simple be throwing money out the window. I don't think any of us can comment on whether COVID-19 will be accepted as a reason.
Something for them to keep in mind is that the longer they stay and they more they try to fight a refusal, the harder it will likely be for them to return and the longer they will likely need to remain in their home country before a trip back to Canada will be possible. It's far better to leave on your own before you are forced to leave.
Anyway, I guess it's ultimately up to them.
We have not been refused yet and its quite possible they could get the third extension and hopefully carry them through covid. I am just being proactive because in the past no one has researched anything. The plan is to simply appeal if they are denied, but I am learning that it is a very expensive process and money is limited.
Honestly, I have no idea what made them think to sell everything. Now it's just more burden on my fiancée for not researching this before they came. The plan if Canada didn't work out was to come back to Israel and stay at friends houses until their subsidized housing was ready. ( So it was a little thought out i guess ) But now, due to covid, they cant stay with friends. And now because of the bad planning it is on my fiancés conscious that he has basically sent them to their doom.
Would wait to see if they do get a refusal before panicking but you really need to be making a longterm plan after that knowing they can’t remain in Canada as a visitor forever. Would try to apply to restore and apply for another extension. If anything it will just delay things. Make sure they at least have some medical insurance that covers emergencies if money is limited because an expensive bill is the last thing they/you need.
