Why bother? You can buy everything in Canada, I do not see the need in this.

It is a good idea, if possible take a quantity for 10-12 days.

Please do not take food/grocery from India. Food is really very cheap in Canada.

If you cook your own food (of breakfast+lunch+dinner) & do not eat outdoors, with CA$ 100 per month 1 person can eat (Rs 5,500):
* Breakfast = bread+butter+tea/coffee breakfast
* Lunch = Rice+Chicken+Vegetables
* Dinner = Rice+Chicken+Vegetables

So, do not waste your empty space with food/grocery.

Please take more clothes with you. Canadian clothes are really very very expensive. You will need lots of sweaters, cardigan, jackets, suit, blazer & these are expensive in Canada. A normal sweater will cost you CA$ 120+ which can be bought for Rs 2,000-3,000 in India. A suit in Canada will cost you CA$ 150+.

So, please take from India the following items more in quantity (rather than carrying food/grocery):
Full sleeve formal shirts (job/interviews) + suit + blazer + jackets + sweaters + cardigan + T shirts + Trousers

thanx for your advice..
i think i shoudnt carry any dals eatables etc.i should go for more sweaters.But somebody told me you shouldnt buy much as indian sweaters and jackets are suitable for this season only,not for near dec as there is so much cold that only clothes in canada are suitable like snow shoes and jackets..

another ques is ,is it worth carrying phone from india or buy there as that will include sim too.

No it is not worth carrying electronics items as they are quite cheap in Canada and power supply here is 110 V. The mobile you bring from India may not work here. You are right about winter wear. You can bring thermal wear, undergarments, bed sheets, prescription medicines (if any), over the counter medicines for common ailments, etc.

The mobile will work if the handset supports the same GSM frequency in Canada. So its best to check if your mobile handset will work on GSM 850/1900 before carrying it

Please bring lots of suits + formal shirts from India for job interview & job attendance. A suit in Canada will cost you CA$ 150+.

In Canada, the temperature in March-April and September-October is just like Indian Winter. So, Indian winter clothes that you will bring can be used for those 4 months (March-April and September-October).

The November-February winter is just too cold & for that try to buy at least 2 sets of winter clothes for each person after landing in Canada.

But, whatever clothing you bring from India will save you more Canadian Dollars of future expense. So, try to bring as much clothing as possible & avoid electrical+food/vegetables.

Please note: If you cook at home & do not eat out-doors, Food is very very cheap in Canada compared to Canadian earnings (CA$).
