Hi All,
**Please consider this disclaimer before reading and posting a response: so kindly refrain from posting rude and disrespectful comments about "how can i do this" or using disrespectful language suggesting i am not smart, because frankly i know i messed up, and no matter what your opinion is or what words you use to hide your own insecurities, it isn't going to help me fix the problem. And i hope everyone who does write nasty comments thinks of this disclaimber before posting to other people's threads who are also just trying to get help in this very scary, intimidating, and overwhelming process. Quite frankly, it's shameful to see how some people hide behind the keyboard to rant and rave about someone's situation they KNOW NOTHING ABOUT! Stop it and be a decent human being!*** (end rant)

Anyway, i have become obsessed with this forum, and noticed a lot of people mentioning the question on the general application form about which visa office chosen to process the application. I couldn't remember what i put down, and when i reviewed my copy, i realized I LEFT IT BLANK! I did this when i was filling out the form because i wasn't sure what to put. As it turns out, my proofing skills were not at it's best after checking, double checking, and triple checking everything that was submitted, and i forgot to fill in this answer.

Now my question is, what is the best way to resolve this issue? We are still waiting for SA (package received on 3/17), so we don't have a case number yet. Do we send them another copy of this form with an explanation NOW? Or do we cross our fingers the package doesn't come back to us and send it after SA is received? Do they just pick an office for you if you don't put something down? My concern is them just deciding to send it somewhere that is not Ottawa, and maybe back to the US where the wait time is dramatically different. We haven't received the package back yet, in fact we received an email requesting another document that i didn't realize was needed, and no mention of this information was in that letter.

how would you handle this for yourself?

Thanks again for the KIND AND PRODUCTIVE feedback!

Stay calm, give the call centre a call, and ask them.... I'm sure they'll be able to help you out!

Good disclaimer! Haha ;D
In my own opinion, I really don't think it'll make a difference considering CIC chooses where to process your application. Since you're American, your only choice was Ottawa anyway.

I wouldn't send in a new form. I would call the call centre, give them the receipt number so they can match your file (they'll ask for the sponsors birthday/last name/address/etc), and just tell them what happened and that you should have written Ottawa.

Don't worry :)

I wouldn't freak out over it too much. I am sure you are not the only one that have done this. Since you have not made any post as to whether you applied inland or outland.

If you applied inland, which is Vegreville, I can sure CIC will default your application to Vegreville office for processing.

If you applied outland, I am "guessing here" assuming it will go to the VO based on the applicant's home country USA, in your case, Ottawa.

If you want to feel better, wait until you get your AOR and then resubmit the format with the processing office filled with an explanation of your honest and overlooked mistake. I am sure they will direct the application to it proper location.

My own disclaimer: I am NO expert, just sharing my thoughts.

If you have to send another document in, couldn't you just include a new general info form with Ottawa listed? Along with a note stating that you realized you neglected to select a visa office in the first one? That would be how I would try to address this.

As for being worried about people being snotty, don't. :) I am a relatively smart woman, but my IQ dropped about 40 points whenever I had to deal with this PR application stuff. First we sent off *just* the sponsor portion of the app, without any of my PR app stuff. ??? Then I somehow managed to miss EVERYTHING about the medical and police certificate. :-[ Thankfully, I read a lot on this forum, learned not to listen to the advice of the CIC call centre (haha!), and decided (against the call centre rep's advice) to complete my medical and send in my police certificate *before* CIC requested them. Thankfully, that allowed me to get AIP and DM on the same day (impossible, if my file hadn't been complete!) after the long wait for stage one through the "silent summer" of 2013.

Good luck! And don't feel dumb. There are a ton of details, and add to that the stress, and it's easy to make mistakes.

Not a showstopper. You should be able to correct it through a phone call (perhaps after you get your assigned file no.).

Thanks everyone! QuebecOkie - I wish I had figured out this BEFORE i had sent in the other form. Of course, it was 2 days later that i figured it out. OYE! I am glad to hear this isn't the biggest deal in all of your opinions. I am applying outland BTW.

And i certainly don't take snarky remarks to heart, it just really bugs me to see some people take their anger out on others who they don't even know! I guess i'm just one of those people who wants everything to be unicorns and rainbows and have no hate in this world.( sigh - a girl can dream!) I'm sure as long time contributors, you know the few posters that are out there that needs to chill out a bit. can't we all just get a long? lol :P

This forum is AWESOME for the info shared here! And TERRIBLE for the ways it will make you doubt the things you did before you started reading and learning! ;D

I do think the default setting for US apps is Ottawa at this time, and only apps with "red flags" that will necessitate interviews are sent to the actual offices in the US. Not *sure* about that, though.

And I shared my idiotic missteps just to show that you can screw up a lot of things and still blunder through the process in the end. 8) (In our defense, Québec's *separate* Immigration office and website made the whole sponsor vs PR application part of it much more confusing. The people here have mostly been very kind to me, understanding and encouraging as I work to learn French, but MAN, the things I could say about certain aspects of provincial government!!! :-X )

It's so true. I didn't do the medicals before hand and when I asked about it, I got responses like 'OMG how could you do that, why would you do that? Why would you ruin your whole application?!" And what happened? It's fine, I just sent in the results later. lol.
So don't worry! The fact that you left something blank that CIC decides anyway is no biggie :)

I agree. I don't think it is a big deal. In fact, CIC doesn't even always follow what is written there. You could put whatever the visa office you want your application to be forwarded to and CIC can then decide they rather have it go somewhere else and that's that.

You can call CIC and ask them where they sent it to if you don't hear anything.

I wouldn't be concerned about it at all. When I started working on my wife's PR application last year, her correct visa office was Seoul. So I typed in "Seoul" and spent the next 5 weeks gathering docs and completing the remaining forms.

By the time I was ready to submit the application, the Seoul office had closed and Korean applicants were moved to Manila. I forgot to change "Seoul" to "Manila" on the form before sending it all off to Mississauga. It didn't matter. CIC approved my sponsorship and her application just got sent to Manila anyway.

I really doubt it matters what city you type in that box. CIC knows where it's supposed to go and will send it to the correct place regardless of what you type on the form.

i wish there were like buttons for posts on here.
thanks everything... everyone gets a great big LIKE!!!

As others have said, it's not a big deal. I wouldn't even bother contacting CIC about it or sending in another form. They will see you are American and send your app to Ottawa.

When you click validate on the application in adobe that box isn't necessary to get an OK.

I think everyone has covered all the advice. Some members have this board can be very rude, but everyone makes mistakes.

I tripled checked our application and my husband checked it twice and we mailed it off and then realized we had forgot to include wedding pictures! :o (They were in a separate word document) DOH!
