Hello friends,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea or experiences regarding the Government Assisted Refugee protocol from India or anywhere else for families who would like to claim refuge.

Can you advise please on the longevity of the processing of the application and what the protocol you used to start their application??

thank you in advance

You can't claim refugee status while living in your home country. You have two options. The first is to get a TRV (tourist visa), travel to Canada and then claim refugee status once you arrive here. The second is to move out of your home country to another country - and once you are there, be officially recognized as a refugee by UNHCR.

India is not usually a country where Canadian government sponsored refugees are selected. In general there is quite a small number of accepted Indian refugees in Canada in the last few decades.

Thank you for your response. But the family would be coming from another country to register with UNHCR in India.

There are millions of refugees in the world. Very few are resettled annually. The chances of resettlement in any country is unfortunately quite low so you can't count on being resettled especially to a specific country. Just want to paint an accurate picture.
