Hi Folks,

I was not sure where to post this kind of questions related to a very specific scenario. Please let me know if there is any other thread where I could post this .

I am an Indian citizen currently living in Germany . I have received the COPR and planning to travel to Canada in this September to apply for the PR card and the SIN and come back to Germany.
I want to stay in Germany for another year / year and half and then move to Canada permanently towards end of 2017.

Is there any kind of problem in this plan ? (Related to Tax , Benefits or anything else ??).
If this a feasible plan what are the mandatory things that i need to do (Like SIN ..) ?

Cheers,
Tim

There's no problem with your plan. You do not have to apply for the PR card in itself. It is automatic when you land. If you have friends or relatives who can receive it for you when it comes in the mail, they can have it couriered to you in Germany or mail it or bring it if they come to visit. Otherwise, you can get a UPS address and have them forward your mail to you.

If for some reason the PR card does not arrive, you can re-enter Canada when you are ready by applying for a PR travel document at the Canadian embassy.

You should apply for a SIN after you land because in case the PR card does not arrive for some reason and your COPR is older than 1 year when you return to Canada, you would not be able to use it to get a SIN anymore but would have to wait until you have a PR card.

You should not apply for health care or any benefits after your landing because if you are not staying, that would be considered fraudulent.

But how long he can stay outside Canada 6 months or 1 year or 2 years or 3 years

I m little confused that in Cic site says 2 years out of 5 five years to meet RO

So for one journey how long I can stay outside Canada ( should be 3 years ) so if I come back after 3 years is it still fine

He was not asking that. He is landing now and coming back in 2017. That is more than enough time to meet the RO.

I don't know why you are confused because on the CIC website it says 2/5 years to meet the RO and that is true. In order to stay in Canada 2/5 years, you can stay outside up to 3 years maximum. Actually 1094 days to be exact. If you stay outside that long, you will have to stay in Canada for 2 years straight without leaving. I would not advise anyone to stay outside the maximum amount of time because you do not know what will happen with your family overseas for the next 2 years. If there is sickness in your family and you want to return home for a month or two, you would be risking your PR if you already spent 3 years outside.

Yes, you have no prior absences from Canada as a PR, you can leave for up to 1094 days which is 3 years less than one day. After that, you would have to stay in Canada for 2 years straight in order to fulfill your RO and after that, you could leave again for up to 1094 days.

Thanks a lot Guys !! :) +1 to you.
I have couple of more queries -

1. Can I give the address of Ottawa for the PR delivery even if I am landing in Torronto Airport ?
2. I am sure the office to apply for the SIN would be there in Torronto somewhere , aint it ?
3. Can i open a bank account too ? Though I am not sure whether I should open one or not first of all !

Cheers Guys!

1. Yes, no problem.

2. You can find a Service Canada office here: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/tbsc-fsco/sc-srchct.jsp?lang=eng and that is where you apply for a SIN.

3. You can indeed open a bank account but do you need to? Sure it can come in handy if you want to wire money into it before you come back to settle. It is up to you. Having the SIN will be good before you go to the bank. It is not a must for a non-interest bearing account but they'd like to have it.
