After receiving my PR card that was valid for one year, I also got the good news that my GC application was forwarded through and hence never made it to Canada and took off to the US.
Now my card has expired so would that mean my status has been expired as well. I'm now thinking of renewing my card so that I can at least have the option of reentering the country if I get the desired job.
Can I do that or is my status revoked an I will have to reapply again?
If you have never been to Canada, you are a NOT permanent resident and never have been one. You received a COPR/immigration visa that would have required you to “land” in Canada to activate. IRCC would consider your application abandoned and you would need to re-apply from the beginning again. There is no option to renew/extend to allow you enter the country.
You can apply for jobs in Canada, but as you have no status, your potential employer would need to have an approved LIMA to hire you. You would then need a work permit to come and work in Canada. (As a GC holder, you would be required to report your income to the IRS in the US and potentially pay them on your). You should also check residency requirements for GC holders before you leap into this.
To sponsor your parents, you need to have 3 years of verifiable Canadian income that meets LICO. It would likely be 4 years before you could apply and only after your application is drawn can you sponsor them. You would need to maintain the income level and continue to reside in Canada through the process. If Your brother is still a dependent of your parents, he can be added to the application. If he isn’t, then he can not.
If your parents and grand parents are deceased and you have no other living relatives (wife, children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins) living in Canada, you might be able to sponsor your brother to come to canada. The process takes about 2.5 years, and you would need to reside in Canada during the process. You would also need to remain single.
