Hi all,

In October of 2019, I got my Post-Graduate work permit for the next 3 years, however, I had to move away from Canada for a year. I plan on finding work in Canada and then fully immigrating. But, due to the situation with the pandemic, the borders are closed and I can't enter the country until they open the borders again. My fear is that, for that period of time, I will not have enough time to find work, work for a year, apply for PR, and then hopefully to citizenship. Does anyone know how this might turn out? Will Gov. Canada provide some kind of extension to work visa holders outside of Canada?

Thanks in advance.

At this time no announcement have been made regarding extensions of PGWPs due to COVID-19. Probably best to assume the duration of your work permit is not going to be extended.

You are in fact able to enter the country now. You can enter Canada as a PGWP holder. While the borders are closed to all but essential traffic, there is an exception for work permit holders.

Only if you have a valid job offer clearly mentioning that they are still open and tgat they will accept you after your 15 day mandatory quarantine after your arrival i Canada.
