It is nowhere close to being approved. Your friend is misinformed.

It was reported to the House of Commons, and will be read the third time soon, but there hasn't really been any schedule for the third reading yet. After it passes the lower house (which should be a matter of formality at this point), it will then follow the same procedures at the senate as well.

Bill C-24 was rammed through the parliament (House and Senate) without a single amendment or consideration to witnesses and stakeholders. Bill C-6 has already several amendments which have been accepted or considered, and I believe it may receive even more amendments in the Senate (or even, God forbid, voted down; it has been known to vote down a bill which passed the democratically elected house, namely, Bill C-311 which received majority of votes in the house, but voted down in the Senate), so we'll see how it's going to turn out and how long it's going to take.

it will be approved by july 1 2016

This news make my day am so happy to hear it

It is not approved yet. Infact, chances of 3/5 Citizenship becoming a law just went down with this Trudeau issue in House.

It was clearly a brush and opposition is making it a "Physical Molestation" and "Assault". I mean does CONservatives, who have been pulling bills without debate, have any right to complain. And come on and be real. It was bit over the board behavior by Trudeau, but not Physical Molestation" and "Assault"...

Gosh, CONs will take full advantage of this throughout this year atleast...

Umm...have you read the news recently? It was the Liberals who had the audacity to table a bill that would limit debate in the House of Commons:

Please note that this site is not affiliated with the government in any way (its not a .gc.ca site)...any news there means nothing unless a similiar announcement is made on a government site.

Its still in the process...no one knows if it will be approved or not.

The bill has to pass third reading at the "House of commons"..i understand no date has been scheduled yet for that activity - but once it occurs and it passes - it will be then sent to the Senate where it will have to pass first, second and third reading. If it passes the Senate stage, the next step will be for the bill to receive Royal Assent in order to become a law, at that point some of the bill components will become effective immediately (such as the "intend to reside"), while others (such as the 3 out of 5 rule) requires the government to decide an effective date.

Note that at the Senate - the Conservatives have more seats than the liberals, if they disagree with any of the Bill's components - it will be sent back to the house of commons..and will continue to be sent back and forth until both agree on the whole Bill.

That's the story...the likelihood of all this happening by 01-July-2016 is remote :-X...though i will be happy if it happens :D because that to me that would mean qualifying for citizenship in 2017 rather than 2018! 8)
