My boyfriend, soon to be husband in the summer, will be applying for PR right after we get married, and I'm just wondering how my(the applicant) lack of work history will affect the process. Is it a big deal or is it just a standard thing they ask on the application?

It's not a huge deal. It's a standard thing they ask, and they may use it to see if you'll be able to support yourselves in Canada, or to check for glaring incompatibilities.

and also to check your background - the applicant needs to have a coherent story, so work history + travel history are part of the background check... they won't call any employer that you mention, but if there is a discrepancy in the dates etc, then they will notice it.
Other than that - not a problem. You're applying through the spousal route, not skilled worker, so you're not expected to have a set amount of work history etc.
Good luck on your application,
Sweden

Thanks so much! <3 I have a feeling I'll be on this forum a lot in the next year, as I am such a worrywart that I'll need to rely on other's reassurance and stories of success lol

There's plenty to read here, it will keep you busy countless hours of days and nights if you want to! :-)
The process is a bit daunting, so don't hesitate to ask for support whenever needed.
