Hi,
I am a Canadian Citizen and my fiance is here on visitor visa(valid for 6 months), we are thinking about getting married and than he will apply for an open work permit(which i think will take around 4 months to get approved)
My question is can he apply for his work permit while he is here or does he has to go back home to do it, and what is the sucess rate of it? Can they deny the work permit?
Thank you for your help.

So what you actually mean is that you are intending to apply for a spouse PR sponsorship for your to be husband ?

To be able to apply for a work permit with spouse PR sponsorship that would be an inland application so sure you can apply whilst he is still legally maintaining/extending status in the country and would take on average 4 months to get a permit and upto 12 months for the PR application to go through..

For sure any immigration application can be denied given just because someone marries a citizen they still need to qualify for immigration same as anyone else even though the odds might be very slightly swayed in their favor there are no guarantees,

The main challenge with an inland application by the way is that is not advisable to ever leave the country whilst the application is in process given from an immigration point of view they could consider any application as being abandoned plus of course each entry to teh country someone is assessed from scratch as a temp resident.

Suggest you do some research on spouse sponsorship on the CIC website as all the info about how to proceed is there

As described above, you cannot simply apply for an open work permit. You would need to first get married - and then complete and submit an inland application to sponsor him for permanent residency as your spouse. If you do this, you can then include an open work permit application with the sponsorship package.
