Hello everyone,

I am currently in Canada with a Post-Graduation Work Permit.

My fiancée is also on a PGWP and she is the principal applicant for permanent residence (application already submitted, AOR received, waiting for a decision).

We are planning to get married soon, but we are not sure what happens next.

My main questions are:

1. Once we get married, should my fiancée inform IRCC through the webform or directly in her online account?

2. What documents do I need to prepare as the new spouse (passport, marriage certificate, police certificate, medical exam, etc.)?

3. Will this delay her PR application significantly?

4. Has anyone here gone through the same process and can share how long it took after adding a spouse?

We want to make sure we do the right thing.

Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Suggest better to post in the forum which has her application type (EE?) as well.

1. Yes.
2. She will need to update all docs submitted (eg IMM0008) in revised form, including you. You will need to provide the docs you would have provided had you been included in the beginning (yes, marriage/birth/police certificates and any relevant IMM forms). Medical and biometric will be required, yes - I don't know in this case whether you submit medical results and biometric in advance or whether you should wait for IRCC to send request.
3&4. "It depends" - it will certainly delay it, which one might say could be 2-6 months, but also depends how far along her app is.

I note very important: if you get married before she gets PR status, you MUST advise IRCC asap and BEFORE she gets PR status. No choice in this matter. If she gets the invitation to complete the PR 'virtual landing' process and becomes a PR after you're already married, she will never be able to sponsor you.

If she does get become a PR before you're married, it's manageable and you can be sponsored later - as long as you get married afterwards.

Assume you have factored in when/if CRS score is reassessed as married or common law with spouse accompanying he still meets CRS cut-off. Will inly be applicable in certain pathways.
