Hi,
I am sponsoring my girlfriend, almost wife as will get married in 3 weeks.

I have started to fill all the forms almost done on that side,
Now I am getting letters from family to write they they are aware of our relationship.
Does it matter if the dates says 2-3 weeks before the actual marriage? does it sounds suspicious to cic?

I would like her to do her medical examen aswell a few days before marriage? or what do you guys think about that.

I really want to have everything ready and then send everything in a few days/ weeks after.

thanks

Hi,

we prepared almost everything before we got married, too. I hardly think CIC naively thinks that people are going to get married first then start wondering how to live together. Any sensible and responsible couple would do some thinking and research about where to live after marriage and how.

Our own application hasn't been approved yet so I can't tell you whether we succeeded or not, but I am guessing a lot of people start preparing for their PR application before they tie the knot. And if you two have been in a relationship for a while and have substantial proof of that, it shouldn't be an issue I think.

Good luck!

You may be waiting over a month before you get the marriage certificate, which will delay you mailing the application.

Police checks are only valid for 3 months so plan accordingly.

Medicals are valid for 1 year. It's best to do medical as the very last step before submitting the application to ensure it doesn't expire during processing.

thanks for your help!

from what I understood in Colombia where we are getting married it's the next day that we can get it.... but we'll see.

for the police record I think I only send it when the embassy asks for it.

No, don't do that, get it first, then mail everything together, especially if you plan on filing outland. Failing to send all required docs might result in application being returned to you.

maybe it's different for each country:

CIC website says :

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Yes, you need to provide a background verifications certificate. However, do not apply for the background verifications certificate before obtaining a file number from the visa office.

How or where do I obtain one?

If you live in Colombia (both nationals and non-nationals)
Once you have submitted an application to the visa office, the visa office processing your case will provide instructions to you on how to obtain the background verifications certificate.

Wow never heard of something like that before. Yeah in that case, send your application in, it wouldn't hurt to include a note that says what you've just shown us.

Where are you reading that from? The Colombia country-specific guide for family class outland apps, seems to indicate all police checks should be submitted with the application upfront.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3908e.pdf
Send the following documents with your application and check () each box when they are enclosed.
• Send originals of the police certificates and forms listed in items 1 to 7 below.

You must attach the original police certificate(s) to the application

Some countries, such as Colombia, require an official request from CIC before they will issue a PCC. Once the app is transferred to the local office, the VO will issue the applicant with the official request letter to obtain the PCC.

From what I've seen on the forum, Singapore and Hong Kong are other countries with a similar procedure. I believe there are a few others as well, though I can't recall them right now.
