You can apply for US Visa anytime. Why do you think that your spouse getting a PR Card and applying for US Visa related? Do you have some specific reason or concern?

My husband is not in canada yet, but when he comes I want to go across the border, so that's why I asked, and he would need a visa to go.

Hi, I have a question about this topic.

When I was 16 I was detained by U.S authorities (for being in the states without a status) long story short I had to go to court and I was given Voluntary Departure. I will be in Canada soon with my husband as he sponsored me and we were wondering if I will have a lot of issues going back into the states (for shopping not to stay) he is also an American citizen but we are not planning on moving to the states as of any time soon. Maybe just as I said for shopping or visiting family. I'm going to consult a lawyer but what are your point of views?

Not sure about that, maybe someone with more knowledge can guide you.

It should not be a problem as long as you and your husband can prove and satisfy the immigration officer about your ties to Canada (ex. Job, Family, etc)

The US seems to have long (and somewhat unforgiving) memories when it comes to those who have had problems in the past. It may depend on how long ago that was...did they tell you at the time you would be inadmissible for any period? I think you are wise in consulting the lawyer. It very well may be possible, but you want to go about it the correct way.

I will ask a lawyer I mean I was underage and if I was there was by my parents will. I also left a week or so after they granted the voluntary departure and they had allowed me to stay for like 4 months more but I chose to leave ASAP. I hope I won't have issues as I want to visit family.

Thank you, I am going to try when he comes, because we have a wedding to attend and I want him to be there.

you can apply for it straight away, but they will consider his passport origin - so if it's Jamaican, then he will be assessed as a Jamaican citizen, not a Canadian PR - so if Jamaicans require visas to enter the US then he must apply like any other Jamaican citzen, whether he has PR status or not. good luck!

Thank you, did not know that.
