Getting a job during a TWO year stay(Business Analytics Professional)

Hi Friends,

An IT MNC is sending my wife for an onsite assignment to CANADA(Winnipeg) for two years from May 2015 from India.I want to understand job prospects for me if I accompany her on dependent visa.I am an MBA working in the field of business analytics I am comfortable with SAS,SQL and SPSS with around 5 years of experience. Will companies hire people on this Visa.

I believe your wife will be issued with a work permit which should qualify you for one too in Canada. You have to submit your own application for an OPEN work permit. If you are issued a work permit you are legally authorized to work - dependent visa = no work for you. Business analytics is a big area today in North America. Projections up to 2022 indicate a continued shortage of qualified personnel in this area yet its only growing bigger and fast. As someone that has and still is doing a lot of reading on this area I can confidently say, you are in the right line of work and I am working on going into that stream - I find it very interesting.

Thanks next2015 for your reply.It was very helpful.But I am curious about the job prospects for people with OPEN work permit. Are companies willing to recruit them?. Are they hesitant as we do not have PR.Also how much time it takes to get the work permit issued? and can I apply for Open work permit from India as soon as the visa is issued for my wife

Actually you should be happy about an open work permit because it allows you to obtain employment with anyone. The work permit your wife will get I believe is employer specific-she cannot get employment with any other company. If she does she will have violated the terms of the permit which puts it in a good position for cancellation.

I have also obtained information that indicates your wife can submit your application with hers at the same time. I'm not sure about its accuracy though.
