Hello,

My wife has an Indian passport which was issued at the Indian Consulate in Dubai, UAE where she resides.

On the Generic Application Form IMM 0008, the "Country of Issue" is required. Does "Country of Issue" in this form mean the country which has the authority to issue the passport (India) or the country in which the passport was physically issued (UAE)?

In short, do I put India or UAE as the "Country of Issue"?

Thanks,

Inside my U.K passport it says issued in Canada .. Have a look inside the passport and if it doesn't say anything my guess would be UAE

So in regards to my question, did you put UK or Canada as Country of Issue?

The issuing Country is the one on the cover. My UK passport has a Canadian issuing office, but is still issued by the UK representative in Canada.

Okay, so this is what I thought. But it is different than the answer above. Can anyone else verify this?

I am the sponsor and i didn't have any problems with writing issued in Canada . Weather it was processed by a British office that was located in Canada it still says issued in Canada .Thats what you were asking. Have you looked inside your passport. You are sending a copy of your passport also ,so if we both sent British passports and one of us wrote Canada and the other wrote U.k and neither of us had any problems i wouldn't worry to much to what you write India or UAE.

Google brings up a nice summary from the US ESTA website:

Your "Country of Issue" is the same as your "Country of Citizenship". For instance, if you are a citizen of the United Kingdom, but are getting your passport from the UK Consulate in Hong Kong, the UK is your country of issue.

That said, it's one of those things where it doesn't really matter if you put down the wrong answer because the VO can just look at the copy of the passport.
