Hello All,

A friend recently submitted a claim for Asylum/refugee under the LGBT Gay Claim. he had the first step done ie met with the officers and got his passport taken etc.. he has a lawyer and all. I'm wondering if some of you could share your experience in regards to this. How often it is rejected/approved? i am a bit worried for him for this.

Please advise.

what is good ... what is bad... ? what should be done while waiting for the interview.

Depends where he's from (which country) and what evidence he has provided to support his claim.

Well he's from Africa.. he's from Cameroon as well.. and he's just had a story to explain how he had been persecuted.. how much of substantial evidence does he need? There's not going to be graphic materials or such.. you can't really prove you are gay beyond you saying so and/or presenting yourself with a partner?

They certainly don't want graphic evidence. However they may look for him to provide evidence like proof that he is active in the underground LGBT community in Cameroon. Or that he has been persecuted, possibly beat up or threatened, as a result of his orientation (e.g. police records, hospitalization records). Assuming he has a good and experience lawyer - that lawyer is probably in the best position to say what his chances are of being approved given the evidence he submitted.

Do you know of anyone in this forum who went through the process and/or got approved/denied and can share their experience?

Did they attack him in cameroon? If yes, did he go to the police to report the incident?
If he reported the incident/s to the police, he should ask for a copy of the police report and it will make a big difference especially if its more than one time.

He didnt go to the police? The big question they gonna ask him is WHY ? He has to convince the judge why he didnt go to the police. Prove with articles that the police are against gay people bla bla bla and cannot be trusted.
But if the police can be trusted and treat gay people the same as other citezens, he has to convince the judge why he didnt contact the police.

Most major point, was it repetitive? If not, hes in trouble. If he yes, he has to prove it. ( multiple police reports)
Was he beaten? Pictures of his body where it shows scraches or blue/ dark parts.

Is his own family threatening him? That's another point.

Also, he has to convice the judge why he is in risk if he moved to another area. If he answer with ( i dont know anybody, no work, no family) the judge will tell him but you came to Canada so hes contradicting himself.

This is a good source to print of what is happening in cameroon.
