Gay Couple wanting to move to Canada

I was born here in the states and have become increasingly disenchanted with my country. I have always had my eye to Canada and loved what you all have been able to accomplish that we have not. In the past 10 years the attitudes in this country towards LGBT people have really changed and to the point where violence against us and discrimination is more prevalent than most know. Also the political climate here has become increasingly toxic, and I am unsure if people from other countries really know how bad things are getting here in the States in terms of loss of freedoms etc. I desperately wish to move to Canada but so far it appears its extremely difficult to do it. Any advice?

You and your partner (if you have one) can immigrate to Canada together if you are either married or common law (common law = have lived together for a minimum of one full year).

However you must qualify to apply - in other words, you must meet the criteria for one of Canada's immigration programs in order to be accepted. You've provided no information about yourself - so it's impossible to provide any advice at this point other than that.

If either you or your partner has a professional degree (Bachelor's or better), you can probably find a job through NAFTA. That would allow you to work temporarily in Canada and hopefully qualify to live in Canada permanently through CEC or PNP immigration programs.

Just putting my two cents out there, since I'm also from the USA - Canada is no dreamland. They may have the gay marriage thing worked out, but there are still hateful, homophobic people all over the country. Also, unless you're from a major city, the cost of living will be a shock.
