I realize that due to the health care system- they don't want immigrants that come for the purpose of freeloading. That makes good sense. I understand that I must be able to pass medical exam, or at least prove that I am not going to burden the healthcare system.

But my question is: if I have been diagnosed with conditions (ADHD and Asperger's disorder) in the past, but have never used any services, and do not take medication,will I still likely be denied or fail the medical? My conditions don't cost me any money, as I am not in any treatment for them. I have never received any disability benefits (in the USA) nor special services as a child in school. I took ADHD medication as a child, but that was years ago, and I have years of employment and school to show that I do not need them anymore.

The Asperger's thing worries me more, since although I have never been in treatment for that- it is lumped in with Autism now--and of course, the average person with an "autism" diagnosis uses a lot of expensive services throughout their lives. But I hope that they would realize that those statistics are skewed by people who need 24/7 care?

The law ( Immigration and Refugee Protection Act) says

38 (1) A foreign national is inadmissible on health grounds if their health condition
  • (a) is likely to be a danger to public health;

  • (b) is likely to be a danger to public safety; or

  • (c) might reasonably be expected to cause excessive demand on health or social services.
I can easily prove that I am not the first two. For the last one, all I could say is that I have never used services or treatment in the past(other than ADHD medication many years ago) -- and that my average yearly net medical expenditures (before insurance) easily falls well below the limit.

Your post doesn't go into what you are applying for and what is your history. If you can prove that you won't be a burden to the system you should be fine. Not sure how old you are and whether you work or study.
