Hi Folks,

Hoping someone with some knowledge about the Visa application process is able to answer this question for me.

My girlfriend is currently in the process of filling out a visa to come visit me in Canada from Uganda, Africa. She literally has no substantial wealth in Canadian Dollars and I have already written a letter of invitation detailing that I will cover all her expenses.

Am I able to send her my bank statement so that she can use that as her funds available for the stay? Or is this ONLY money she has in her account? Perhaps it's better than I transfer money to her?

Need to know asap.

Cheers,

I'm in a similar situation with my poor girlfriend from Philippines and I have found out that it is not enough to just show your bank statement, they will also consider what she has. You should get her to open up a bank account and gradually deposit money into it.

I don't understand the gradually part, so it doesn't look like I'm just giving money so she can come? I don't understand the philosophy behind that, seems rather inconvenient.

Your "poor" girlfriend was declined when she applied?

No, we still haven't applied for vista, working on it. By gradual, I mean do not deposit a huge lump sum. Should be regular deposits over time.
That's what we're planning to do.

You might want to try having your girlfriend apply on her own. You area strong tie to Canada and why she might remain in the coutnry after her visa has expired. What we did in the past was to have my wife book a trip to Canada with a tour company and a hotel reservation then as soon as she got off the plane we cancelled it all. All we had to pay for was one night in the hotel.

Thanks Dave, that makes sense and all but I'm an honest person and you would think I would have a right to have a friend/girlfriend/family member come visit me without having to resort to that, sigh.

Hey Kyle!

My boyfriend from Uganda is applying to come visit me in the spring - he has a good job, but like you said, what he makes isn't really of too much value in Canadian dollars. How did your application go? Any tips would be very much appreciated!!!

Webale!
