High rate of unemployment among university-educated new immigrants in Canada

Canada, 7th October: New immigrants in Canada having university education are likely to get fewer jobs than Canadian-born people with same education level, a recent study indicates.

According to the latest annual report into quality of life in Canada titled-Canada Vital Signs 2010- states that immigrants with professional credentials and having lived in Canada for a period less than five years were having a 4.1 percent higher jobless rate than the non-immigrants in Canada.

Canadians with university education were found to be having 3.4 percent unemployment rate while the rate of joblessness among immigrants in the country was 13.9 percent, the report maintains.

Meanwhile, the overall rate of unemployment among new immigrants was 15 percent as compared to 7.8 percent among Canadian workers.

Canada’s dependency on immigration is increasing due to its reducing work force and the findings are of a great concern for the country, the Community Foundations of Canada, an umbrella organization supporting charities has maintained.

Reasons for these wide differences in the rate of employment among Canadians and immigrants in Canada could be due to delay or denial in recognition of foreign credentials, language problems and insufficient Canadian work experience for newcomers in Canada.

The report findings reveal nearly 36 percent of immigrants in Canada in the age group of 25-54 years are university educated.

And if recognition of foreign credentials of all immigrants in Canada is done, then this would result in addition of around $5 billion in the economy of Canada each year, the CBC (Conference Board of Canada) states.

The provinces of Quebec and Alberta were found to be having largest differences in the rates of joblessness in Canada between immigrants and Canadians. Canadians with university education were having a jobless rate of 2.9 percent in Alberta while immigrants with similar level of education had a jobless rate of 11.5 percent.

Quebec had around 20 percent of the university-educated newcomers without any job.

Out of the total Canadian population, almost 50 percent possess some sort of post-secondary education, the official data for the year 2009 which shows an increase of around 2.0 percentage points from the year 2006.

Dear Dr. Sachin,
1)
At CHC, before getting "In Process" Lower staff checks the documentary completeness. and if they dont find them complete they may ask for further doc or refuse strait away before sending it to Visa officer.
if docs are ok status change to "In Process" and file sent to VO for review

2).
if our Application passes this stage it reaches at the VO's desk. and VO asses the application as per ministerial instruction and awards points.here Qualitative checks are done by VO.and if find unsatisfactory
he may refuse the application.(Like Garry)

3).
if found all ok(no need of Verification)Standard BG Checks starts here
VO Issues medicals.

4).
if VO find any doc/information suspicious he/she can ask staff for Verification(Authenticity check).
like employment Verifications/Edu Certificates verification./POF.if verification's result comes positive
VO will issue medicals.this may delay our case for two three month after status changed to"IN Process"

we amazed too with the way VO responded, really not sure abt it, all i can tell you at this point of time that they might have done it by mistake, the reason is its just been 1 week for your status change, VO usually takes some time to come to some kind of conclusion, if the rejection is for the reason like duties unmatched or the no sufficient points then they would have done it in first instance, in process status states that u over come from the points n duties hurdle n now ur background check is in progress, they check the authenticity of all ur docs and if any doubt they make verification call or call you for the interview....siting all these scenario i'm bit amazed with the case...hope for the good, as i said, i wish that u receive medical n not the rejection letter...keep us posted...good luck...

Hey Tarak,

if you can please post the updated table with the current updates.....

appreciate it...

Hi all,

I am a FSW applicant, almost in the middle of the process. Got 2nd AOR in August. Now waiting for Meds Request. Meanwhile, I got a problem.

Actually, My office location is changed to another plaza. As it is a small IT company, the management has decided to close down all of land-line/telephone numbers and to convert the system to Vifi or mobile something. Now, there would be no telephone numbers but the communication would be done by Mobile numbers.

What should I do now? I have given the Landline number of previous building (which is now changed).
Do immig officers call at Mobile numbers or they don't? or they just simply reject the case on this base?

I am really worried.

Please reply.

Regards,
Waqas

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for replying to my query. Hope you would not mind me asking: how many years of exp do you have under noc4131 and how many yrs of exp in noc4141? I am just thinking out loud and wanted to know if CHC ND has counted your experience in 4141 too for awarding points under work experience. Or is it they awarded points only for your experience in noc4131.

Awaiting your reply.

By the way thanks to gauri for sharing the link.

Regards,
Sakhi.
