Hi guys,
All our family are planing to land in Canada in March 2011. I am currently a full time student in the UK and being a dependent of my father throughout the the immigration process. I will be landing with my family but have to get back to England to finish my studies before permanently moving to Canada some time next year(I've got around a year to finish off my education here). I was wondering under the current residency obligations does this one year studying overseas will be counted towards my fulfilling of the residency obligations or not? If it doesn't, would I be in trouble when applying for my residency or renewing my PR?
Cheers,
MJ

You have to stay in Canada for 2 years total in your first 5 years as a PR and each rolling 5 year period after that. Staying away for a year to finish your studies will not count as time in Canada but since you are allowed to be outside Canada for up to 3 years, it will also not be a problem.
