In the coming months, IRCC will complete an assessment of Post-Graduation Work Permit Program criteria and begin introducing reforms to better calibrate it to meet the needs of the Canadian labour market, as well as regional and Francophone immigration goals.
“International students are talented, bright and deserving of a positive experience as they pursue their studies in Canada. We will continue to improve Canada’s International Student Program by protecting students and weeding out those who try to take advantage of them. Whether an international student stays and works after graduation or returns home, we want their time as a student in Canada to have been beneficial to their growth and aspirations.”
– The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

Any ideas ?
looks like its tied to immigration goals..

Hello guys,
What are your views of people using Canada PR/ Citizenship as a way to get into or (H1B) backup for the US or another country?
Is it ethical or unethical?
On one hand, Canada PR and citizenship means that we make a promise to live and build a life in Canada permanently.
On the other hand, we get the PR and passport as economic transactions from our CRS points and tax contributions to the government during our working years.
I use "old growth" (I will call them OG from now on) Canadian citizens as benchmark.

Is it unethical for OG Canadian Citizens to move to USA for business or job reasons? Nope!
Do OG Canadian Citizens make this implicit promise to live and work in Canada by virtue of being born here? Nope! That will be absurd to even think about that!

So it is not immoral or unethical for me too if I wish.

Remember folks, do not try to be more Canadian than OG Canadians.

Marc Miller loves spending capital on announcements that could be emails.
And top of it the press release is from Brampton,ON where reside most of the owners of those diploma mills & the owners of the agencies who run those massive immigration campaigns in rural India luring poor innocent students. Talking about scrutinizing them from their own backyard, the news sounds totally authentic.

I might never vote for Liberals as long as Marc Miller remains in that party.
Although, I guess there will be a day when I will get tired of Conservatives too lol
What about PPC? They seem like they will really fix most of Canada's problems. Very hard for them to get seats though, no one takes them seriously enough.

Maxime Bernier's goals are as poorly thought-out. If you read through this garbage, it has no solutions: https://www.peoplespartyofcanada.ca/platform

As long as there's a concept of minimum wage and those minimum wages are being honoured(a little debatable, but largely it is being honoured), they should've been able to provide a decent living to Canadians. There's something clearly wrong with themselves and they need to look inwards. PP is hitting the right spot here as he's the only one talking about it.

The much bigger problem in Canada is greedy Canadians. People who are leveraging assets(housing, cars, food, etc) to the point of abuse aren't outsiders, they are predominantly Canadians. It is really weird that no one is talking about these greedy citizens. Going behind an identifiable group that's weak is bad taste and shows a lack of understanding from these politicians.

At the end, it will take a very good lobbyist who has to be an economist(Maxime Bernier is a failed economist) + a visionary to solve these problems. None of these politicians are seasoned - they are still focusing on the symptoms. No one is really looking into the problems that are creating those symptoms.

If they don't have good politicians can't they have an EE stream for that also :p

It’s hilarious seeing the Liberals pivoting on immigration when they’re getting destroyed in polls. A year ago, they were accusing people, who were questioning the immigration numbers and the international student program, as “racist” and now, the entire public has caught on to their scam and have turned on them.
They have no direction - they are just saying whatever they can, doing whatever they can to get votes. Bad governance.

Canada Announces New Student Visa Rule to Combat Fraud
Canada has announced a new student visa rule that will require post-secondary designated learning institutions (DLIs) to verify every applicant's letter of acceptance directly with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) before issuing a study permit.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2023/10/changes-to-international-student-program-aim-to-protect-students.html

Canada to Adopt “Recognized Institution” Framework
In addition to the new verification process, Canada will also be adopting a “recognized institution” framework ahead of the fall 2024 semester. This framework will enable priority processing of study permits for applicants who plan to attend recognized institutions.

To be recognized, an institution must meet certain criteria, including having a high compliance rate with Canadian immigration regulations and a strong track record of student success.

The recognized institution framework is designed to streamline the study permit application process for genuine students and make it more difficult for fraudulent institutions to operate.

Canada to review Post-Graduation Work Permit program
Canada will also be conducting a review of the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program for the first time in 10 years. The PGWP program allows international students who have graduated from a Canadian institution to stay in Canada and work for up to three years after graduation.

The review will focus on ensuring that the PGWP program is aligned with Canada’s labour shortages and regional immigration goals. The government has said that it will announce reforms to the PGWP program in the coming months.

Too little and too late Roflmao. Canada’s going down New Zealand’s path. The general public doesn’t trust them with immigration or any other issue anymore. They’ve screwed immigration up tremendously. In New Zealand, even after their leader, Jacinda Ardern resigned, the Labour Party got trashed in the elections. The conservatives in Canada don’t even have to release an election platform anymore, they’re cruising in the polls. The liberals are in panic mode and they’re going to turf international students who are in Canada solely for the sake of PR, first. Then, I expect them to remove the PGWP eligibility for majority of the programs and colleges in Canada. The huge temporary migrant population in Canada will have two choices, to either go back or to live in Canada as undocumented workers. Living in Canada as an undocumented worker means that you basically get zero social services and you’re not able to work legally. No matter how much these people protest, don’t think the liberals will ever give them free PR.

These liberals are an absolute disgrace; zero planning or rational decisions whatsoever. If the liberals were serious about maintaining the integrity and high-quality level of immigration Canada used to have, they would NEVER have done the 75 CEC draw or the TR2PR pathway. They have recently removed several requirements for people to get tourist visas - the result has been a massive increase in asylum claimants, especially from Africa. These fools govern on the basis of propaganda rather than sound policy backed up by data and common sense.
