Dear All,
I have been in the process of immigrating for almost two years. I sent out my passport to the Detroit office after they requested it in the first week of April. I hadn't heard anything from CIC since last fall, finally inquired and, lo and behold, I received my PPR. I am a citizen of the Philippines.
Now it's April 6th (I fed-exed it to Detroit and paid for it to be fed-exed back to me) and I am going a little insane with anticipation.
A few questions in bold: Dear forum, senior members, in particular, how long from this point do you estimate I have to wait? I took my medicals Oct. 9, 2009. Is it possible that the year-date from my medicals could come and go before I get my passport stamped? I am terrified of having to go through this timeline again.
I plan to drive to Toronto - from reading the posts here and the CIC website, I have determined that I can (1) rent a car and leave in Chicago at an Enterprise location OR have my American friend drive it back to the US - this correct? And, (2), provided I get my beloved pet cat her vaccinations, and bill of good health cleared, can I drive the cat in the car with me and import her into Chicago at the POE?
And, lastly, this question has been burning me up since the beginning, and I don't know the answer despite a LOT of looking and researching: provided I am driving - will the US side stop me at the border?
A little about me that might aid your answers: I am F-1 here in the US, have maintained a full class load since my entry, maintaining my I-20 lawfully within the US, despite the F-1's expiry. I definitely want to land in Canada, stay for a while but then re-apply for an F-1 in Canada so I can finish up my program here in the US (in order for me to land, I am taking a leave of absence).
Thanks and any and all insight would be appreciated. I've done a lot of research - but still some questions remain, and I feel that the collective experience here can help.
MY BEST TO ALL.
