Hi people,

Sorry in advance for a long post, but i really, really need your help ;D

I decided to apply for Federal Skilled Workers program before new Express Entry system starts and now I'm filling up the forms, preparing the documentation etc.. and I have few question I hope you can help me with.

So here's my story..
I'm 28 years old, single, no kids.. I have bachelor degree in Journalism - Business communication (verified by an Educational Credential Assessment ) and almost 7 year-long work experience (3 years of paid job as part-time assistant/student, and almost 4 years as full time, head of departement) but not as a journalist but system/data administrator in a full service public opinion, media and market research company. So I'm very familiar and experienced in technical jobs, and official title on my contract was data administrator/system administrator. Does this non-related diploma degree and work experience lower my chances for successful application?

Because in the documents I have to note the NOC number, and I have difficulties to decide between 2281 – system administrator and 2172 – data administrator. Also, there is an explanation under 2182 saying – Classified elsewhere - Advertising, marketing and public relations managers (0124), so I am confused with that, what does that mean and does it apply to my case because the company I used to work had something to do with advertising and marketing and also TV audience measuring.
Can any of you please explain which NOC should I choose, because I don't want to make mistake although both occupations are listed as eligible for this year.

I don't have valid job offer, but I have required amount of money and english proficiency. I've traveled a lot but never been to Canada. I have many friends here but no relatives.
Also considering pass mark I wanted to ask you is ok to apply if I collect 65 points in six selection factors (on the website it's noted that 67 out of 100 is ok for pass).

And one last question – does the fact that I'm single, never married and with no kids in any way affects the final decision about the application.

Thank you in advance for your answers and help. ;)

NO. Having a different degree in your case will not affect your chances.

You NOC will be determined by your specific job duties, not by the kind of employer or by the job title even. From your title, it seems that you might be either a 2281 or a 2172. Go through the job description in the HRDC's website for both NOCs and pick one that most closely matches your job duties.

No, it is NOT OK to apply with less than 67 points. It is an automatic refusal of your application.

And one last question – does the fact that I'm single, never married and with no kids in any way affects the final decision about the application.

These factors don't affect your application.

Thank you in advance for your answers and help. ;)

Also, note that you need to take IELTS for ENglish proficiency and also get your Bachelor's degree assessed by CIC-designated education assessing agency before you can proceed with the application. So, your final points will depend on the results from these agencies.

Thank you so much for the answers. My Bachelor's degree has already been assessed by WES and it's on its way to my address, and I'm taking IELTS next week.

I was concerned about which NOC to choose and does my non-related diploma and work experience affect my chances.

Thanks again! :D

The classified elsewhere section helps to clarify the boundaries of the unit group by identifying similar groups or occupations that are separately classified.

Only the occupations on the list qualify under the program .
