I kind of disagree to the below quote. Why will immigrants be treated as entry level. A lot of immigrants that migrate to canada are in the 5-10 yrs experience bracket. Why will these people start from scratch? CIC has focused on credential assessments and particular job codes for which there is demand in the labor market. Canada needs immigrants to sustain and experienced people will not move unless there is something to benefit out of this move. If you have the right skills, you will find a job that should pay the minimum wages basis the labor market set standards for those roles.

BROTHER EVERY IMMIGRANT FACES THIS DILEMMA AND GOES THROUGH THE CHALLENGES OF "NO CANADIAN EDUCATION" OR "NO CANADIAN EXPERIENCE" IN INITIAL PERIOD. BUT THERE ARE SOME INTERESTING FACTS AS SHARED BY OTHERS.

Consider urself as Canadian employer, keeping in view that majority of them are not MNC's but local midsized businesses. What would be ur fears
1. Does he know local work ethics and laws/rules?
2. Is he flexible and willing to adopt local culture or impose his own?
3. Does he have experience of handling situations similar to what we face on daily basis?
4. Does he know the rights of customer or will land us in law suits?
5. What is the education standard in his Country? Do they inculcate similar knowledge and vision, as the one imparted by Canadian universities? Remember, the ECA is equivalence of the degree not the standard.

The reputation you earn at ODD JOBS, helps answer many of these worries as the employer can take a reference check. Btw who stops you from taking “ODD job” in your field? e.g. if u r from IT field, opt for Data Entry or call center odd jobs. If u r in accounting field go for book keeping or if u r in sales work at some retailer etc etc. Then develop relationship with related ppl in the organization who can “pull” you. The best option is INTERNSHIPS, which CANADIAN GOVERNMENT's SETTLEMENT AGENCIES ARRANGES for NEW COMERS. The issue arises when we immigrate with a frame of mind that I was a manager in my country with 50 ppl reporting to me and my first job shud be at same level with a team of at least 6-10. By the time, a person realizes that he has to start his career once again, its usually too late and all the savings have already been consumed. Thus, he has to resort to pizza delivery type jobs.

Having said that I know some of the FSW 13 employers who got job in first few weeks. Even one got better job than that he applied for (experience shared on the forum) and in fact better than the position he has been working prior to immigration as he succeeded in proving his capabilities.

Net Net,
a) the ppl with negative experiences are more vocal as they have more time to share their negativity, while the successful are busy in achieving further heights.
b) Human's tend to have “ selective recall” i.e. we remember things which are in accordance with our fears, while ignoring the positive news as an outcome of “luck”.
c) If immigration to Canada was so easy, half of the world wud have immigrated long ago and there wud have been no room for us. So, yes, Canada is land of opportunities and promising future for our generations, but we have to EARN IT.

I will just share the facts with you
(1) My sister graduated from Punjab University Patiala (India) went on to work in Infosys, went to USA @ 1,25,000-00 PA, After one year shifted to Canada (Vancouver) @ 80,000 PA and now after one year she has a stable job @ 1,00,000-00 CAD and she is pretty happy ( I would not say she had to go through a very tough time or she had to struggle a lot or clean streets or do meager jobs-- no)

(2) My Brother In Law- did his MBA from IIM (one of the top Institutions of India), Had to struggle a little bit in Canada, Worked as Store manager in MAC's store for six months and is now Working in Telus @ Abt 1,00,000-00 CAD (Little bit of struggle)

(3) One of my cousin -Shifted from UK to Canada- Had to work in a factory (manual job) for two months and is now Territory manager for Alberta and Saskatchewan for a renowned retail store. He earns in excess of 1,00,000-00 CAD

(1) The friend who shifted from UK to Canada- Says he has more disposable income, HE is better of in Canada, He can survive with single salary which was not a possibility in UK.

(2) Sister's observation- Canada is better then USA (And please note she says that stationed in Vancouver where we all believe that jobs are less and salaries are low)

(3) Brother In law's opinion- Canada is Better then USA.


The above are facts Sister is " QA ", BOI is "Portfolio Manager " and they are all happy, Yes when we shift our basis we have to struggle, Yes we will find some negative stories but overall we should be prepared for some struggle before settling into our dream Job and our comfort Zone..

I further dispute that you can not live on a single salary/ or you can not survive if you are doing labor job or you can not live sweeping streets , No my friend you very well can do it.

MIn Wages in canada are 10.55 $ per hour, If you are working 5 days a Week, 40 Hours a week you get 422$ per week or 1688 $ per month, You may not have a fancy car , you may not have best of accommodation but mu brother you will survive on this amt.

DO NOT BE DEPRESSED DO NOT INFLUENCED WITH SUCH ARTICLES, there will always be positive and negative stories around, Trust your instinct, Do your research and go ahead.

Here is my take on whatever is written in the article below.

1. When we started our career in our home countries, it took us years to settle down in a job we wished for. The big dream takes some time.

2. Not everyone is cleaning streets, obviously when you moving to a land where you are alien, that country will take its own time to accept you as them. So be patient

3. If you are so qualified, I suggest you do some good certification course from canada and make your way up the ladder, there shouldn't be an issue to prove again that you are intelligent if you did that once.

My suggestion, you will find a lot of success stories as well for people migrating to canada. So everyone is requested to write their own story and succeed
