Very simple. Just tell him to send d update for pod and do his medical. He shld do a cover memo informing them that as a matter of policy the business owner is refusing to release the required document. He shld include in the cover letter the contact telephone no and email add of d Busines owner for verification. I did same when I applied for my application at first. My organisation does not give employer reference. What I did was a cover letter and email add of HR for verification.

In addition to this, I want to believe the company letter headings has the RC number, he can also quote that in the cover letter for AVO to verify from CAC, if they so desire.

If AVO ask for his company registration it means that they have doubt if the company exist or not. Since the employer refused to release his documents he should take a picture of the company with their signage in it, inside the office, any files on d table with company name on it. if the company has an online presence such as website, blog or classified listing please send do print it. Then include the owner's information such as direct email and contact phone nos in the cover letter. I hv seen pple with MR given a 5 year ban recently cos of misrepresentation and please he should order gcms notes.

In addition to the suggestions already given, he can simply go to a lawyer/solicitor to do a company search at Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the company. The search report which will be endorsed by the lawyer's firm can be sent to AVO as proof of existence of the company. He can even do this corporate search by himself at any CAC office (however it will be faster if the company was registered in the same location as the CAC office - for instance go to a CAC office in Lagos if company was registered/incorporated in Lagos).

I personally have done a company search before and I can attest that it is a simple process (concluded within an hour or two) - CAC will issue you a receipt and a report which basically quotes the company name, registration number, first directors, shareholdings, etc. CAC is only interested in the fee and it is not expensive (about N1,000). These documents can be forwarded to AVO as proof. Of course there will be a cover letter stating that his company refused to release that document hence the reason why the corporate search was done.
