hey guys, I am currently studying mechanical engineering at the UNB. It's my first semester and already this is too much for me to take on ... So, i want to know if I can just get admitted to a college without notifying CIC. I have my study permit validity of more than 4 years. I want to do diploma in Automotive field of studies. So, Is it possible for me to drop down from university ( Bachelor's degree ) and get admitted in a College for like 2 years diploma ? without doing any official work with the CIC ? :-\

You need to notify CIC if you are changing schools.

i don't think he needs to notify anyone ..

post-secondary student

You may change your school, program, field of study or level of study (e.g. from the Bachelor level to the Masters level) without applying for a new study permit. You do not need to apply for a change to the condition of your study permit, either. You may continue to use your study permit as long as it is valid.

Your school will report that you didn't attend your course and your visa will be cancelled. You will need reapply for a new visa if attending in January. You can not work before becoming a full-time student. If your goal is to apply for the PGWP please be careful because many private college programs do not qualify.

@scylla is correct you have to notify.

Changing institution at the post-secondary level
If you applied for a study permit to attend a post-secondary institution after June 1, 2014, you must notify Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) via your account every time you change institutions. You are not required to apply for a new study permit when changing institutions that are at the same level of study (e.g., from a college to a university).

For example, you must notify CIC if you submit a letter of acceptance from the University of Ottawa when you apply for your study permit but then transfer to Carleton University once you arrive in Canada.

You are not required to notify CIC when you change institution if:

  • you applied for a study permit prior to June 1, 2014;
  • you were issued a study permit to attend an institution at the primary or secondary level; or
  • you obtained a study permit as the family member of a study or work permit holder (i.e., you were not required to submit a letter of acceptance when applying for a study permit).
Get step-by-step instructions on how to notify CIC that you have changed DLI’s using your account.

Hi seniors,
I got admission for MBA masters program in one private university(DLI).last month went to join in the university but am not happy with some reasons so I didn't enroll in classes and planning to join in Two years diploma course in one DLI college.
Does it affect my status by changing from university to college? Do I need to change my study permit?
Please let me know if anything is wrong with this step.
Thank you :)

If you didn't attend your previous course you student visa would have been cancelled and you need to apply for a new one. You can call and doublecheck that your visa was cancelled but by law your college/university needs to report that you never became a student.
