Hi guys,

Can someone please help me with my situation. my friend is currently on a study permit doing his PHD and would like to put his studies on hold and apply for a work permit. hw has a job offer from an employer in Canada. Can he just apply for a closed work permit? or does the employer need to apply for a LMIA (labor market assessment)? please help

Yes his employer would need to go through the process of obtaining a LMIA which means the job would have to be advertised for a minimum of 4 weeks. It's a very involved process so your friend needs to find out exactly what would be required before he makes any move to suspend his studies
