Hi,

I am a permanent resident of Canada landed on May 31st 2019 and living in Toronto. A friend of mine who has a US visa already (since 2016) is planning to make a visit to the US in October 2019 (and I will accompany him there too provided I get a US B2 on time). Post that, he will be applying to a Canadian TRV in Dec 2019 to visit me and see the Canadian winters.

Do you think his trip to the US in Oct 2019 will have a negative impact on his TRV application in Dec 2019 (mainly since they are just 2 months apart)

Thanks!!

No, why should it? It's got nothing to do with his Canadian application. If anything, it will improve his chances since it'll show that he went to the US and returned to his home country.

The way I understand it, your friend will visit the US in October, apply for a TRV from the US, and go to Canada from the US. He won't be returning to his home country before going to Canada. Is that going to be the case?

Oh no. He will visit the US, go back to his home country and then probably after a month or so apply for a TRV from his home country.

I deleted my previous post, but OK--he just has to be sure on the visa processing time from his home country. Maybe he will qualify for CAN+, but I have my own doubts because 1. it's so soon, and 2. it's just one trip.

He had been to the US last year too and went to Sweden on a work visa in 2011. Also what’s a CAN+?

Short version: A sort of expedited or priority processing for people with US visas and past TRVs. Google it if it is applicable to his country. You can also search this forum for more info.
