Since google did not get me any useful answers I'll try you now:

My partner just got a job in BC and now has a temp. work permit. We are from Germany and moved to BC about a month ago. Me on a 6 moth visa (just stamped in passport).
I am self-employed with a translation business registered in Germany, but I have not had it long enough (since 10/2011) to be having excellent numbers. It is running, tho.
We are not married and have no intention to do so.

How would I best get a permanent residency?
Applying together with my partner (skilled worker or provincial, he has no prob getting it) as common law and open a business after in BC (what are the regulations? qualifications needed?) or do I apply separately?
Can I do either from within Canada?

Any help is very appreciated since I think we need to get it right in the first place since starting at the wrong end may have some consequences...
Thanks a ton!
